My Town

You might think, after a six month hiatus, my first new blog post would be something fantastic.  Prophetic.  Dazzling.

But no.  Instead, I offer one photo.  One picture that epitomizes this week of giving thanks....

I was at the Port Townsend Brewery last Friday night when four travelers walked in - kids in their early 20s, each of them shouldering backpacks.  They saw me, ambled over, and asked if there was somewhere nearby to eat.  "Yes," I said.  "But you're here.  You should have a beer first."

They really needed to eat, they explained.  They'd just ridden the bus from...

If I had the opportunity to re-write my "Reasons to Move to Port Townsend" list, there is one item I would add:  tall ships.  When I see those graceful ships gliding across the bay, I can't help but fantasize about pirate adventures and centuries past.  These pictures were taken Saturday, May 22nd, on Port Townsend Bay.  The Lady Washington and ...

The Cinco de Mayo celebration at The Port Townsend Brewery was the social event of the season.  The Delta Rays entertained us with hours of danceable music.  Bub's Tacos provided sustenance for the evening.  Yummm...  Tacos...  And as always, Kim was absolutely stunning in all her birthday glory.

My apologies for not getting these...

Many thanks to Phil for his brunch invitation last Sunday.  The mojitos were refreshing and perfectly sweetened.  Amber's Popovers were moist and delicious.  Beth's Cinnamon Rolls were a taste of heaven.  And The Flamenco Eggs were unique and savory.  Or were they Flamingo Eggs?  They did look a tad pink...

Brunch was a spectacular culinary adventure.  It was also not unlike a dining experience at...

A few years after I moved to Port Townsend, in April, 2005, The String Cheese Incident announced two concerts in BC.  They were to play one afternoon in Whistler followed by a night in Vancouver, BC.  I immediately planned a road trip to Canada, but I didn't know anyone else in town who was going.  So I did what any girl-of-the-21st-century would do.  I put an ad on...

I learned a few things at Friday night's Vaudeville performance at the Legion Hall in Port Townsend.

  1. We definitely have an abundance of incredibly talented people in this town!
  2. It's really hard to take pictures of moving people in the dark.  I think I see a tripod (and perhaps a photography class) in my future.

Here are some of my favorite photos from the evening.

In celebration of my new blog, I treated myself to a new camera.  I chose the Canon PowerShot SX20 IS for several reasons:

Few of my Port Townsend friends were actually born here.  Most folks relocated here from somewhere else - Chicago, California, Seattle, Texas.  Everyone has a slightly different story about how they got here.  This is my story.

I graduated college after summer quarter, in August, 1997.  The following summer, just after Memorial Day, I quit my job, loaded up my truck, and took off traveling across the United States.  It was just me, my beautiful...
