The Loan Officer Assistant is the engine behind the scenes, helping loan officers manage their pipeline of customers. They handle all internal procedures to help customers own homes. They order credit reports, review loan applications and customer paperwork, analyze mortgage lending guidelines, and create loan estimates for customers. The Loan Officer Assistant makes sure every file is moving forward on time and with care.
The Loan Officer Assistant should have a a Mortgage Loan Originator's license or the ability to obtain a license within the first several weeks of employment.
This person must be smart, curious, and committed. In a few years, they will become well versed in our team's processes and procedures, business strategies, specialized software and technical resources, industry guidelines, federal mortgage law, factors driving mortgage interest rates, and more!
The Loan Officer Assistant should thrive in a dynamic work environment. No two customers are the same and no two days are alike. The industry is constantly evolving. Guidelines are updated. New products are introduced. And our processes and procedures are tweaked to be more effective and more efficient. A passion for learning is essential in this role.
The successful Loan Officer Assistant should have excellent communication skills. This person will regularly correspond with customers, teammates, and referral partners via text, phone, email, and/or video. They will need to master the art of patiently and politely instilling urgency. Solid grammar and spelling should be used to communicate succinctly and effectively.
Outstanding technical skills are a must! We spend most of the day in front of a computer. While this person may not have experience with the exact databases and systems we use (most are specific to the mortgage industry), they should be comfortable entering information into a database, using common Windows applications, navigating the Internet and social media, and learning new systems and programs.
This person will need to be organized and detail oriented as they monitor dozens of files - all at different stages in the loan process - to make sure customer needs are addressed immediately, paperwork is signed promptly, and closing dates are met. The ability to prioritize and juggle multiple deadlines is essential.
Most importantly, this person will need to fit in with our office and team culture. We laugh. We yell. We curse like sailors. We love dogs. We're irreverent. And we're fun. We'd love a Loan Officer Assistant to work from our gorgeous, waterfront office in Port Townsend. But a remote position will be considered for the right candidate.
